Here in Toronto

Toronto is a city unlike any other in the world. According to the United Nations, this is the most ethnically diverse city in the world. In our truly global world, the opportunity to learn, interact and build relationships with people of different ethnicities and backgrounds is extremely valuable.

There is so much to discover in Toronto, one of the safest cities of its size in North America. For enjoyment, festivals, theatre and concerts enliven the city. For academic growth, museums, galleries and libraries are all close to home. For relaxation, parks, sporting facilities malls, restaurants and attractions are readily accessible.

Centre Island:
In the midst of the skyscrapers, Centre Island is Toronto’s downtown oasis. Take a short ferry ride from the Toronto harbour and relax on an island of greenery, beaches, a small amusement park and barbecue stands. Centre Island is perfect for a picnic or either biking or rollerblading.

Taste of the Danforth:
Toronto is known throughout the world as a place where cultures come together and nowhere is this more apparent than in the many restaurants. Try Asian, European, Caribbean or South American fare in the comfort of your city. The Taste of the Danforth is one of several street festivals, which include entertainment and games, where food has a central focus.

Caribana:
This parade showcases and celebrates the tremendous influence and impact of Caribbean and black culture. People from around the world come to Toronto specifically for this great event. The parade down Yonge St. is a spectacular display of colours and sounds.

Public transit:
imageTyndale has a large parking lot available for students to use. However, for those without their own vehicle, public transit is readily accessible. A bus from the nearest stop to Tyndale takes less than 10 minutes to reach Toronto’s subway system. From there, the subway can, with the help of streetcars and buses, take you anywhere in Toronto safely and efficiently.

Library system:
The William J. Horsey Library at Tyndale has a vast amount of resources. However, you also will have access to dozens of libraries across the city, including the gigantic Toronto Reference Library. These libraries have thousands of books, electronic resources, microfiches and videos that will help you with any projects you may have and research you wish to pursue.

Sports teams:
imageTyndale students love participating in sports, both varsity and intramural. There are also fields, courts and rinks close to the school where you can play. For those wanting to cheer on their favourite teams, Toronto is Canada’s sports capital, with teams in all four of the major sports and a brand new team starting in soccer. There are also auto races, tennis tournaments and exhibition matches in many sports.

The Ex:
Canadian National Exhibition has been a part of Toronto for decades. Held just before classes begin, this two-week event will be an immense thrill to you. Wander through the vast food court, check in with the various dealers and stores that set up shop, try amusement park games and don’t forget the famous air show.

Wonderland:
Canada’s Wonderland is the place for the amusement park lover in you. The park, to the north of the city, has all of the latest games and rides. Scream in excitement as you zip around the tracks of the rollercoaster or as you plunge down a whitewater canyon. There also concerts and delicious food stands around the park.

Shopping:
For those who love shopping, Toronto is a paradise. Some of the country’s biggest malls are in the city, all easily accessible by public transit. Close to Tyndale are Centrepoint Mall and Fairview Mall. If you are the more adventurous shopper, make a trip to the Eaton’s Centre, located in the heart of Toronto, which contains hundreds of shops.

Entertainment:
Toronto has a number of entertainment options available. Want to see some action or something to make you laugh? There are dozens of movie theatres in the city. Interested in music? Concerts are often held by some of the world’s biggest music acts right here in Toronto. You can also go bowling, play mini-golf or go to the theatre. Many of the world’s biggest plays can be seen in Toronto.
